I believe it starts with each person individually. My husband and I own a small coffee house and purchase only direct trade and/or organic beans from our suppliers. Living in Los Angeles, it’s hard to compete against the big guys - but we’re trying, one cup at a time.
Sincerely,
Cafe Corsa
I agree that the future we envision happens one person’s choices at a time -thru the companies we support, the manner in which we consume, and overall cost-benefit analysis that should constantly taking place in our heads as we move thru the day.. (I’ve come to the realization that simply being a cheap-ass is lame.. it’s doing a dis-service to the next generation and lacking in personal character)
Sometimes it’s hard to put our wallet where our mouth is. However, it’s empowering to realize that IT’S NOT UP TO THE BIG COMPANIES; ITS 99% UP TO US- THE LITTLE CONSUMER.. 1 at a time When we support globally-thinking companies, we are empowering the responsible business leaders who will reshape the world in the direction that puts a smile on all our faces. In my opinon, being conscious and proactive with these subjects is a modern-day equivilant to what people used to refer to as “having class”.
Will: check out this company to add to your quiver of global thinking companies, they have very cool product and they were founded by 2 San Diego surfer entrepreneurs: www.calibamboo.com
Pleae larger print on the emails…..my over 50 eyes cannot read this one very well.
I constantly notice corporations and individuals not be reponsible for thier actions and improving thier lives. Everything from the government bailing out people with forclosures to the lack of urgency for us to make change for the environment. I was an owner of a small corporations where I tried to help the employees with things like insurance, saving, retirement, and being environmentally aware of things that could make a difference. I kept setting myself up for disappointment and finding that the bottom line for the general public is how much money they bring home! Most smaller corporations have the same philosophy and only care about the bottom line. We have created a society that is selfish and mostly cares about the here and now.
What is it going to také for the general public and corporations to wake up and be responsible???
